The Black Keys - Dearest (Buddy Holly cover)

This week’s big news in tributes is the Rave On Buddy Holly album from Concord Music Group. With covers from My Morning Jacket, Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, Graham Nash, and a host of other heavy hitters, this is probably the tribute album of the year.  It opens with this perfectly spare version of “Dearest” by The Black Keys.

Happy Monday everybody! I present to you the first Mixtape Monday of 2011. I was trying to figure out a way to include my “Favorite Albums of 2010” in today’s mixtape — but I have so many, I couldn’t really decide. Instead, I decided to post a track from each artist in my last.fm’s Top 10 Artists from the past 12 months. My last.fm isn’t that accurate of a reading of my overall listening habits, but it’s a fair enough guess. It’s obviously not limited to albums released in 2010, but is a list of my most listened artists of 2010.

A number of artists have already been included on mixtapes, so I included links to the other mixes they’re on after the track name. (This isn’t going to be a regular feature, it takes forever. I just wanted to include the previous mixtapes of the year they’ve been included on — in the spirit of the “recap”!)

Here’s to another year of great music!

Such a jam. Turn it on and turn it up! I love a great mash-up.

Happy Monday everyone! Starting off this mix is that ubiquitous summer jam, “All Summer” by Kid Cudi, Best Coast & Rostam Batmanglij. I don’t care if it was released as part of a Converse campaign — I really love this song. Also throwing in the newly surfaced Lauryn Hill track “Repercussions” because I love that one too. A sort of random mix, but hope you guys dig it!

(Just FYI, the picture is of an awesome record and instrument shop in San Francisco. Previously seen here. Reblog if you love records! :P )

Happy Monday! Since I’m still in San Francisco (and without my computer), you’re probably wondering, “Michelle, how did you manage to make a mixtape and post it in a timely fashion?” — well… it’s called trying the “queue” function on Tumblr for the very first time.

Fingers crossed it worked okay.

Since I’ll be gone until the middle of this week, I figured I’d try and prep a mix early. (Otherwise, you wouldn’t be getting it until Wednesday or Thursday, and that’s just sad.) Hope you like the tunes! Some new stuff (Future Islands) and some not-as-new (Bat For Lashes, Klaxons), but all awesome.

The sun when there is none
I’m a shepherd for you

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone had an awesome Memorial Weekend — for me, the long weekend has always sort of indicated the start of summer. Here are a couple songs that kept me company the last few days. I don’t know if they could all be considered “summer songs” (what does that mean anyway?) but there’s something dreamy and summery about them anyway. Perfect for in the car with the windows down. Or poolside. Or wherever you may be. Let me know what you think of the tunes!
