Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson - “Winter Song”
——-
This is my winter song, December never felt so wrong
‘Cause you’re not where you belong, inside my arms.
Sara Bareilles - “River” (Joni Mitchell cover)
——-
One of my favorite covers. Do you guys count this as a Christmas song? I do and don’t — I play it during the holidays, but frankly, I’ll play this song all year long.
Here’s Part II of my holiday mix! While I love the Christmas classics, there are always a ton of great new original holiday songs, or covers that I love. Here are a few of my favorites! And here’s a non-rhetorical question — do you guys consider Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” a classic? It’s not exactly new, but it’s not old enough for me to file it amongst Bing and Phil Spector’s Christmas album.
You can check out my holiday mixes from last year here: #34 & #35

Who doesn’t love a cover? Feels like forever since I’ve posted a covers mixtape — it kicks off with one of my favorite new covers, Mayer Hawthorne’s take on ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky”. This is pretty much been my summer jam so far. (And yes, that is a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” by Neon Trees. Just listen to it; they get extra points for inserting Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” instead of the ridiculous rapping part in the middle.)
And you may have seen that photo before, I took it last week on Instagram. (If you’re on Instagram, come find me. My user name is: mlee525)

Since I was so behind on mixes the last few weeks, you guys are getting two mixes this week! Consider it my Christmas gift to you all!
The mixes are all my favorite holiday songs — today’s mix is full of holiday songs (original and covers) by contemporary artists. I had to really cut down to get 10, but I think it’s a nice little collection! Let me know what you think.
The photo is my favorite Christmas ornament on our (fake) tree. We’ve had that little snowman for as long as I can remember.

I made up my mind when I was a young girl;
I’ve been given this one world,
I won’t worry it away.
But now and again I lose sight of the good life
I get stuck in a low light,
But then love comes in
